Add 40,000 Points to Your Rapid Rewards Travel Account With the Sign-Up Bonus

Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier card offers a substantial signing bonus of 40,000 points that can be used when booking flights with Southwest Airlines. You earn these points by making $1,000 in purchases in your first three months after opening an account.

That works out to a very manageable spending pace of just over $300 a month on new purchases made directly on the card, as the bonus doesn't apply to taking out cash advances or to betting or lottery ticket transactions. But it does apply to spending on everyday expenses like groceries, which means you can get the bonus without really trying if you just choose to pay with this card.

Continue to Accumulate Points With Each and Every Purchase

Your bonus balance of 40,000 points is just the beginning. You keep on accumulating points on every purchase made with your Rapid Rewards card. Earn points on each dollar spent, double points on travel, and bonus points on anniversary dates. Let's have a look at how it all breaks down:

  • One point for every one dollar spent on regular purchases
  • Two points for every one dollar spent on items directly purchased from Southwest Airlines. This includes travel fares, gift shop purchases, vacation packages and participating car rentals and hotel stays.
  • One point for every one dollar of balance transfers made within the first 90 days of the account being opened. The maximum amount for transfers is $15,000.
  • You'll get 6,000 points on each anniversary year.
  • You'll receive 1,500 tier qualifying points for every $10,000 in purchases, up to a maximum of $100,000 in a calendar year. That means you can receive a total of 15,000 TQPs that can be used to reach A-List status.

If you do the math, that's a lot of points going into your travel wallet. Let's say you use your credit card for monthly purchases and spend approximately $5,000 a month. You receive 5,000 points each month plus the 40,000 signing bonus, giving you a grand total of 100,000 points by the end of the year. Nine thousand of those points are also tier qualifying points. If some of those purchases were for airline fare, that takes the number even higher. Use this card wisely and take advantage of the seemingly endless ways to earn points.

Let's Talk About Tier Qualifying Points

You earn Tier Qualifying Points by flying on select Southwest Airline flights, but the good news is you also earn them with your Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Card. A TQP balance of 35,000 lets you claim A-List status which includes these benefits.

  • Priority Check-in and security lane access - get to your gate faster and easier
  • Priority boarding - Be one of the first to select your seat and stow your carryon
  • Bonus points - earn a 25 percent point bonus on qualifying flights
  • Dedicated member phone line - reach a customer representative in minutes
  • Free same-day standby - avoid long layovers by taking an earlier flight

Once you accumulate 70,000 tier qualifying points, you reach A-List Preferred Status. This top-level ranking provides all of the above benefits plus free in-flight Wi-Fi, and instead of a 25 percent bonus, it jumps to 100 percent. That's double points on every qualifying flight.

It's Easy to Keep Points From Expiring

Simply keep your account open or take a qualifying flight with Southwest Airlines or a flight partner within 24 months. If your account is closed, then your points still remain available as long as you keep travelling with Southwest Airlines in a 24-month period.

Use Points for Travel and for the Companion Pass

Southwest Airlines makes it easy to redeem points. Use them on any day that ends in ""y"" and no blackout days apply. Accumulate 110,000 points in a year and earn a free Companion Pass for the following year and the remainder of the year you earned it. The Companion Pass lets you bring a fellow passenger on all flights you have purchased or redeemed through points. The only charge for this companion is taxes and fees which can be as low as $5.60 on a one-way trip.

With its generous signing bonus and monthly point-earning potential, this card easily lets you earn enough points for a Companion Pass in your very first year.

Enjoy Even More Perks With Your Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier card

  • All foreign transaction fees are waived with this Premier card. Using a credit card overseas is safer and more convenient than cash, and now with no fees involved, it is the clear-cut choice for travel expenses.
  • Your APR varies based upon your creditworthiness. Your smart use of credit and good pay--off history rewards you with lower monthly interest rates.

Low Annual Fees

At only $99 per year, this card pays for itself in points redeemed. One flight using the Companion Pass or one trip out of the country where you save on foreign transactions more than covers the annual fee.

If you travel frequently on business, visit family or just love to see the world, this card lets you make the most of your travel adventures. Double points on fares help your point balance rise even faster, and with the lavish signing bonus, you can't afford to wait. Make your credit card more than just a substitute for cash by taking advantage of all the point-earning potential of this Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier card.
