The Easiest Sign-Up Bonus in the Industry

The Barclaycard Diamond Resorts card has arguably the easiest sign-up bonus in the industry. All you have to do is make a single purchase within the first month, and you get 2,500 Diamond Plus points.

Those points are worth $25 when redeemed as a statement credit for Diamond Resorts purchases, though redemptions do start at 5,000 points.

Keep Earning Points With the Barclaycard Diamond Resorts Card

Diamond Plus points continue to stack up in three other ways, so you aren’t left holding sign-up rewards you can’t use.

  • First, you get two Diamond Plus points for every dollar you spend on Diamond Resorts purchases (outside of down payments on vacation and resorts packages). Book a trip worth $700? That’s 1,400 points.
  • You also get one Diamond Plus point for every dollar you spend on other purchases, which includes money spent on groceries, fuel, clothing or dining out. Spend $2,000 a month just funding your lifestyle normally, and you’ve got another 24,000 points for the year.
  • Plus, for every $2,000 you spend on the card total, you get a bonus 500 Diamond Plus points just because. Those bonus earnings are capped at 5,000 points (or $20,000 per year).

How many Diamond Plus points can you really rack up? Let’s do some math.

  • Assume you do spend $2,000 per month on regular living expenses and such. That’s 24,000 points per year plus you max out the 5,000 bonus points (500 each for spending $2,000). That’s a total of 29,000 points.
  • You wouldn’t be interested in this card if you weren’t planning to spend some time with Diamond Resorts. Here are some of the deals currently listed with the program:
  • Three nights in Orlando for $199
  • Three nights in Las Vegas for $319
  • Seven nights in Hawaii for $1,095
  • If you take all three trips, you spend at least$1,613 with the resorts; you might even spend more on services and goods direct with the resort and you’d earn points on that too. For the purpose of this illustration, $1,613 nets you 3,226 points.
  • That’s another 32,226 points in the first year on top of the 2,500 bonus (or another $322.26 in value).

What Can You Do With Your Points?

Maximize the value of your points by redeeming them for statement credits toward Diamond Resorts purchases. You can redeem them within 120 days of making the qualified purchases, and the rate is one cent per point. So, using the example above, your total annual redemption would be worth $347.26. (Or, if you get the right deal, three nights in Las Vegas.)

You can also redeem your points for statement credits toward car rentals and airfare, which is handy if you aren’t staying with Diamond Resorts for one of your trips but still want to bring the total cost down. Your points aren’t worth quite as much in this scenario, though: they redeem for a bit under half a cent per point — you need 6,667 points to cover a $50 redemption.

You can also redeem through the Barclaycard Loyalty Edge rewards program to cover airfare or rental car costs directly. The redemption rate for that is 10,000 points for $75.

Diamond Resorts offers lush accommodations all across the world, so if you play your card right, you can land in an adventurous, romantic or family-friendly spot and have the costs of your stay partially or fully covered with points.

Other Perks of the Barclaycard Diamond Resorts Card

At the very least, a travel rewards card really needs to come with fraud protection. We think any card needs some nice security benefits, but when you’re traveling, you don’t want to have to worry about whether you can safely swipe. This card comes with:

  • $0 fraud liability protection that ensures you aren’t on the hook if unauthorized charges are made
  • Chip technology to keep your data more secure when you pay at enabled terminals all across the globe
  • Concierge service to handle your concerns or help you find the right dining, accommodation or entertainment options wherever you are

Low Introductory APR Offers

Remember how we said down payments on Diamond Vacations don’t help you accrue points? The good news is that they don’t have to accrue interest either. The Barclaycard Diamond Resorts card comes with a 0 percent introductory offer for six months on any Diamond Vacation Ownership interest down payment.

This is an awesome way to plan for your vacation or timeshare because you can pay for it over the course of six months. If the down payment is $1,200, that’s only $200 per month.

This card also has a 15-month 0 percent APR offer for balance transfers. You will pay a balance transfer fee of 3 percent (or $5, whichever is greater), but that’s typically nothing compared to the interest you might pay if you need a year to pay down a balance.

Other Fees and Finance Details

One downside to the Barclaycard Diamond Resorts card is that you’ll pay a 3 percent foreign transaction fee on spending outside of the United States. That means if you book vacations in exotic locations, you might want to take along another travel card that doesn’t have these fees to pay for incidentals, food and souvenirs.

The good news is that the Barclaycard Diamond Resorts card comes with no annual fee, so you’re not going to have to pay anything to build rewards points for your next getaway.

This is a great card if you regularly stay at Diamond Resorts or want to get into the timeshare game while saving even more money.
